Several weeks of going behind the scenes of the Pokémon world, the Generation series has reached its end. However, The Pokémon Company doesn’t send the series off in a dull moment but finishes with the story of the ancient king AZ and his Floette.
In the finale, the Pokémon Generation entitled episode is entitled ‘The Redemption’ and for good reason seeing as the ancient king has been on a quest for 3,000 years. When Pokémon X & Pokémon Y were released it was a refreshing take on the franchise showcasing a new evolution and story that seemed a little terrifying, to say the least. Kalos; a beautiful region with a vibrant energy pulsating throughout was once a war zone of Pokémon battling for power. A king and his beloved Pokémon Floette were caught in the middle of a war where Floette’s life was taken away. The ancient king AZ was determined in bringing back his beloved Floette he created a machine to bring it back to life. Fueled by rage AZ would use that machine for destruction causing Floette to leave him.

In the episode, AZ’s tale is told through a flashback sequence after a giant traveler turns up at the end of Calem’s challenge against the Pokémon League. I can’t spoil the entire episode if you haven’t seen it but it’s a heartwarming culmination for the entire series as a whole as fans witnessed some epic moments such as Blue’s battle against the Kanto Pokémon League, the birth of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune, Deoxys battle against Mega Rayquaza in the Earth’s atmosphere, Cyrus’ realization of a new in Giratina’s world, and N facing off against Ghetsis in a battle of the dragons!
The nostalgic journey and behind the scenes look has been a fantastic take on the video games we’ve all grown to love over the past 20 years. Die hard are likely not alone when it comes to the future success of the inevitable expanded universe of Pokémon. One thing is for certain the Pokémon name will continue to thrive, adapt, and create some of the greatest nostalgic moments for newcomers and die-hard fans for years to come.
