Optimus Prime had bid the world a farewell in search of his home world, Cybertron but now that he’s found it his new mission is perfectly clear. Last night, the trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth film in Michael Bay‘s chaotic franchise and unlike the previous films things look pretty dark. We are far gone from Witwicky‘s understanding of the Transformers and diving into a pseudo-post-apocalyptic battle.
The trailer is mainly voiced over by Anthony Hopkins as the leader of the Autobots is frozen and floating through space stating “Optimus Prime has left us“. There appears to be a glimpse of Transformers walking throughout the world preparing for what could be open war between the humans. Along with the addition of Hopkins we have newcomers, Isabella Moner, Jerrod Carmichael, Laura Haddock, and Santiago Cabrera. Also with the franchise being mapped out for the future, we see the return of Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, Josh Duhamel as Lt. Colonel Lennox, and Tyrese Gibson as Robert Epps. In the Autobots & Decepticon corners comes Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Drift, Megatron, Barricade, Sqweeks, and Onslaught.
After what seems to be Optimus finally realizing what his purpose is you see him and Bumblebee fighting. He says, “Forgive me” before he tries to strike Yeager & Bumblebee. Wait what’s going on?! Why are they fighting? Is Optimus Prime the villain? Also, there were no mentions of shots of Megatron… Guess we may have to wait for the next trailer.
Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
