Ant-Man (2015): IMAX Sneak Peek Preview!

With Avengers: Age of Ultron still rampaging through the worldwide box office, Marvel Studios (and its fans) are looking towards the Phase Two conclusion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe release in director Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man. The film – which stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll and Michael Douglas – introduces audiences to the future Avenger, following news that the character will be included (along with most of the MCU) in Captain America: Civil War.

Talk of an Ant-Man film has been going on so long and mired by so much behind-the-scenes drama that it’s crazy to imagine that the movie is just weeks away from making its theatrical debut. However, before it does, audiences will have one last chance to catch a sneak peek of Marvel’s smallest hero in a very big way.

Moviegoers who catch IMAX screening of Jurassic World this weekend will be treated to a 6-minute preview of Ant-Man, and now the folks at IMAX have shared a brief glimpse teasing the newly released footage (above). Considering that the video only spans 16 seconds, there’s not too much new detail to be gleaned from it.

If the Ant-Man IMAX preview falls in line with similar promotional moves in the past, it’s likely that the full 6-minute version will focus largely (no pun intended) on an action scene featured early in the film – perhaps one with Rudd’s Scott Lang flying aboard an ant, as featured in the teaser. After all, films like The Dark Knight (and its sequel) achieved great success by essentially lifting the opening sequence and repurposing it as their respective IMAX previews.

Quite possibly, Ant-Man will follow suit with a different sequence altogether. Strong candidates could include a flashback footage of a suited-up younger version of Douglas’s Hank Pym or even Scott Lang’s first time trying out his new alter ego. In any case, Marvel may have a challenge ahead with the film’s quirky tone and relatively obscure (to casual moviegoers) title character. Expect the studio to select some standout footage to pump up expectations prior to Ant-Man‘s release next month.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is still in theaters. The final chapter in Phase Two, Ant-Man, opens July 17, 2015, followed by Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016; Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016;Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on May 5, 2017; Spider-Man on July 28, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017; Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 on May 4, 2018; Black Panther on July 6, 2018; Captain Marvel on November 2, 2018; Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 on May 3, 2019; and lastly (for now),Inhumans on July 12, 2019.
