WWE: The Rock & Sting To Possibly Headline WrestleMania 31
The WWE is working on putting together next year’s “Wrestlemania 31” event. While the actual Road to Wrestlemania doesn’t start until after the “Royal Rumble” in January, plans need to start early since so many big, mainstream, matches take place at the event each year. According to PWS on Wednesday, Sting and The Rock are rumored to play a big role at “Wrestlemania 31,” possibly both wrestling in headline matches.
The idea for The Rock was planted after his appearance on “WWE Monday Night Raw.” While some fans thought that this might lead to The Rock vs. Rusev at the big event, that isn’t likely to happen. The early plans for Rusev is for John Cena to finally bring the big Russian down at “Wrestlemania 31” after he continues to dominant until then. However, after The Rock attacked Rusev, he and Triple H met up backstage the next night for the “SmackDown” tapings.
The idea right now is that the WWE would like to see The Rock come back for “Wrestlemania 31” for a special match against Triple H. The match has the storyline built right in with The Rock as the “People’s Champion” and Triple H representing The Authority. While the match has been done before, it could also work with someone like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin making a return to battle The Authority once again.
As for Sting, the WWE is planning a spot for him as a special guest for the show. It might not be an actual match, but instead plugging him into another role, but Sting has made it clear he wants to wrestle one time in the WWE. The Undertaker has not ruled out a final match, and something with Sting could be the perfect sendoff, whether the two fight each other at “Wrestlemania 31” or they team up to battle whoever the WWE has as their most dastardly heels at the time.
