Review: ‘Guardian of the Galaxy’ from the Editor Chief (Antonio La Cerva)
By: Antonio La Cerva (Editor in Chief of Sparx Entertainment)
Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most anticipated movie of the summer, but is it worth seeing? The movie narrates the story of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who after stealing an orb that belonged to Ronan (Lee Pace), a powerful villain who wants to destroy the universe, finds himself on the run and he is forced to team up with a bunch of special individuals, a raccoon named Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a tree-like human named Groot (Vin Diesel) a mysterious girl named Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and a character filled with rage named Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), together they will fight Ronan and his army in order to save the Galaxy.
The story itself isn’t that original, it’s the classic good guys against bad guys, but it’s narrated well and it gives us enough information about our characters. The action scenes look great and the CGI it’s marvelous plus it’s all followed by well-done comic relief scenes. Acting wise everyone did a terrific job, yes even Bautista, you really feel close to the main character and his companions and personally that’s how you should feel during a movie.
One of my main issues that I have with the movie it’s the main villain Ronan. Lee Pace did a great job and his scenes were great but overall he doesn’t get much screen time and the ending feels rushed. Another thing that was rushed for me was the alliance between the characters, it looks like they wanted to get over it and be like “you know they are going to team up so we will just let them team up in 10 minutes”.
The last thing that had me a little disappointed was Drax backstory, because they don’t go over it much so I personally didn’t care a lot about it. Film wise the movie has great shots, good writing and overall it doesn’t feel drugged. In conclusion to answer the question at the beginning of the review, yes Guardians of the Galaxy it’s a great movie and it is worth seeing, the runtime (121minutes) it’s fair and you won’t even notice it’s that long, and yes there are some minor problems but none of them ruin the fun. Overall I give this movie 9/10.
