Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain Gets Redder As You Play
As if needed to be said, when Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain finally comes out next month, gamers are in for tons of engaging gunplay, stealth-driven tactics, as well as an epic, geopolitically-themed nuclear espionage narrative steeped in the blood of Big Boss’s – that is, Solid Snake’s – adversaries. Of course, fans’ patience for the game’s release has been tested, what with the split between series creator Hideo Kojima and Konami, but once the title is officially available, the gaming world is likely to remain deep behind enemy lines with Snake for quite some time.
On top of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain‘s engrossing gameplay, due to the forthcoming title being built with Kojima Productions’ astoundingly powerful Fox Engine, MGS 5 is undoubtedly one of the finest looking games to come out this year, especially considering the PS4 and Xbox One technical specs revealed yesterday by Konami. Furthermore, the development software is apparently so strong that Hideo Kojima recently took to his official Twitter page to reveal that as fans progress through the story, Snake will get bloodier, and his injuries will remain consistent moving forward.
Moreover, Kojima goes on to verify that Snake’s appearance won’t get put back to normal after each mission, saying, “Snake will be blood stained as he gets injured. Won’t reset even he completes missions/sideOPS… It’s totally different expression from blood as sign in old school game.” Plus, the legendary game designer confirms our protagonist’s trademark bandana will also “be soaked in blood red”, and that players have a choice in what style of headgear Snake wears, saying, “Story wise, he won’t be wearing as Snake broke up w/ the bandana given by THE BOSS in PW. But I let player has freedom of selecting bandana when going on the battlefield.”
Bearing all of this in mind, the announcement is certainly a superficial one, butMetal Gear Solid fans ought to appreciate the meticulous attention to detail that they’ve come to expect from the franchise. Not to mention, with the final poster for MGS 5 highlighting its blood-soaked heroes, gamers probably could have expected such a feature to be a prominent aspect of the game. Additionally, with Kojima teasing everyone with screenshots of a bloody Snake a while back, it was safe to assume that the soon-to-be-released title would have its fair share of gore and bodily fluids.
At any rate, if footage like the extended gameplay trailer is any indication of the quality we should expect from Metal Gear Solid 5, then fans can rest easy knowing that the title will offer myriad ways to enjoy it, and will have tons of replay value. Likewise, should folks finish everything the main single-player campaign has to offer, the addition of an online multiplayer mode should keep them busy for a while.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is set to release on September 1, 2015 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
