You would really think that phrase would have died years ago with the afro, disco, and other generational phases that caught fire, but truly not close when it turns to music. Now you’ve seen Usher, Ne-Yo, Miguel, and even Chris Brown use the element of “sex” in a wide-range of songs and music videos throughout their career. So seeing this format being used isn’t a new avenue unexplored, but Jay Park; an artist that has the fluent vocals of English and Korean can take sex a mix his music to make perfect sense just like the artists I’ve previously mentioned.
A few months ago Jay Park, would tease his fellow “jwalkerz” with short teases and uploads to show what fans exactly the MV that’s getting ready to be released. The 28-year-old singer teased his fans with hashtags that include #sextrip, #experienceit and #50shadesofJay.
There’s not much to say about the video because it is a video that one has to see to grasp the concept. It wasn’t overtly sexual but it is not mild either.
The song had smooth vocals with lots of falsettos Jay is known to do in his slow songs. There is a repeated line throughout the song that goes “your ass will go up and your face will go down” that kind of ties in with song that it is almost not needed but adds a little character to the song. It’s another one Jay’s sensual R&B songs that even exceeded his fans expectations. The video falls into place after that with lots of shots of Jay and the model by a pool, bed and a bar with a bottle of tequila. It was shot beautifully and showed images of the two close and intertwined hinting at the sex. There’s not much to say about the video because it is a video that one has to see to grasp the concept. It wasn’t overtly sexual but it is not mild either.
I do enjoy the song as you can tell this is one way for Jay Park to break the mold and involve the Korean hip hop, R&B, and rap scene into the Western market. It’s interesting to see that he will continue to show and vocalize his passion for his music. I can admire that from any artist that makes music for their fans.
“Sex Trip” by Jay Park was produced by GRAY & directed by Jinooya. Check out the video below:
